Chris Benham and his team are on a huge roll going into the final months of the year. The team took their Whaley Motorsports rocketed Half Scale to the top of the qualifying ladder and never looked back. Not only did Chris win the race, but he reset the SouthWest Outlaw 330 record three times in one night. In the second round he drove the car to an unbelievable 4.2276 against his best friend and racing buddy Chris Dodd. He met Brooke Heckel in the final and ran another outstanding number in the Texas heat (4.233 - .035) to Brooke's (4.311 - .029). There is no doubt that Team Benham is at the top of the class not only in Texas, but maybe in the entire country.
The racing was HOT all night long and all of the drivers had their game faces on. This was one of the closest qualified fields that we have had all year. In the first round Chris Dodd's holeshot win against Dustin Ryan was the closest race we have seen all season long. Chris left the line with a .0288 light to Ryan's .0545 and at the end it was Dodd running a 4.3153 to Ryan's 4.3151.

  Team Benham has done it again. Saturday July 17, 2010 Chris marched through the SouthWest 330 Outlaw field with another impressive outing. He qualified #1 and on his first round bye-run reset the SouthWest Outlaw 330 record with a 4.2600 in the blistering Texas heat at San Antonio Raceway in his Whaley Motorsports powered Half Scale Extreme chassis. This was Chris' second win in the last two SouthWest Outlaw 330 races. He and his team are tearing up the competition. He is also the new points leader after this impressive showing.
 The final round was a close one. Chris (4.2697 .0482) took the win over Brooke Heckel (4.2739 .0705). Brooke earned her second runner-up of the season in the series and has moved into third in points. This is very impressive as she has missed two races due to NHRA rules governing 12 year-olds running faster that 4.70 seconds in 330 feet.
Brooke and her team received a little help in the process reaching the final round. In her second qualifying attempt of the night her Whaley Motorsports Rhino 330 engine broke a wrist pin. With no back up motor she would have been done for the evening. Dustin Ryan, of Go Fast Lion Motorsports, offered her and her team their back up motor to run for the remainder of the race. That was all it took. Her crew chief/father, Shane Heckel, tuned the motor to 4.2907 on the final qualifying attempt of the night. This run rocketed her to the #2 qualifying spot.

Jade Dalton was able to collect her first SEJRA Gold Man at the biggest 330 event of the 2010 season. After qualifying near the top Jade was able to use good reaction times and a lightning quick hotrod to take home the win.
The semi finals pitted #2 qualifier vs #6, and #5 qualifier vs #17. The first match-up put the Sackman brothers racing each other. Matt had been the quicker of the 2 for most of the day, and would prove to be again in this race. The two cars left nearly identical with Matt cutting a .052 to Zach's .055. From there Matt pulled away running a stout 4.337 to earn a spot in the finals.
The second semi race put #5 Jade Dalton against surprise semi finalist Alex Nay the #17 qualifier. Nay did everything to try to take the win, cutting a great .047 to Jade's close .064, but Jade thundered to low e.t. of the race with a 4.334 to take the win and lane choice in the finals.
The finals would prove to be one of the tightest races of the entire event. Sackman took a slight advantage cutting a .043 to Jade's .056, but Jade ran another outstanding 4.334 to Matt's 4.348 to take the win by .001.
